Sarah Breeden, the Bank of England's (BoE) Deputy Governor for Financial Stability, warned on June 30 that autonomous "AI agents" capable of independently deciding and executing trades could trigger a serious market meltdown, and may require tighter regulation. She made the remarks on a panel at the Central Banking Forum hosted by the European Central Bank (ECB) in Sintra, Portugal, on the theme of artificial intelligence and financial stability.
