A new analysis indicates that surging memory prices driven by the generative AI boom have lifted the US inflation rate by roughly 0.3 percentage points. Wolfe Research said that soaring DRAM and NAND demand for AI data centers has added about 30 basis points (0.3pp) to US core inflation. While AI had been widely expected to act as a disinflationary force through productivity gains, it is now operating as an inflationary driver instead, the firm warned.
